Al Jazeera: Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah honors winners of Entrepreneurship

His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Foreign Minister, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Centennial Fund grants the Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Global Award for Entrepreneurship for the winners in six branches. His highness also will give the “Leading Entrepreneurship person of 2014” award to Professor Muhammad Younis, a Nobel Peace Prize winner. The global distribution of his award for entrepreneurship in its second ceremony will be held on Monday in Riyadh in the presence of a large number of princes, ministers and senior Gulf local and global economic figures.

The awards ceremony coincides with the launching of the first Global Forum on Entrepreneurship, which will be held for the first time in Saudi Arabia under the slogan «Towards Global Entrepreneurship», in which about 500 local, Gulf and global experts are involved. The forum is a prestigious event held once a year, carrying a number of important events including Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Award for Entrepreneurship where he meets senior business leaders, intellectuals, journalists, investors, researchers and decision-makers. They all get the chance to meet through discussion sessions about the latest trends and challenges faced by entrepreneurs in the current stage.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Mutairi, General Director of the Centennial Fund and the General Secretary of Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah award for Global Entrepreneurship, said that the award to Professor Muhammad Younis, as the “best leader of Entrepreneurship” for 2014 came after his notable efforts in highlighting the culture of entrepreneurship. He also stressed on the fact that the Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Award is the first on the global level to honor outstanding entrepreneurs and serves as a pilot program to encourage entrepreneurship. The event is held and designed to celebrate, appreciate and reward the owners of pilot projects in Saudi Arabia and the world.

Al-Mutairi expressed his appreciation and thanked His Highness the President of the Board of Trustees of the Centennial Fund for sponsoring the event and for supporting the entrepreneurial youth to achieve their ambitions. He added that the award has become a stimulating and encouraging element in the entrepreneurial society especially in valuing and honoring the young men and women as owners of goals. Thus it became well-respected and appreciated by all.


He added, “The number of nominations made by entrepreneurs reached about 600 candidates from 42 countries and the total value of prizes in all categories amounted to a million riyals.” He stressed the importance of the role played by the International jury, where they chose winning candidates according to a studied and preapproved plan by the award secretariat. He explained that the winning projects are subjected to the assessment of the jury, which is composed of neutral experienced people in the field of projects inside and outside the of Kingdom.

Al-Mutairi talked about the role of the workshop program at the Global Forum on Entrepreneurship. He said that the forum will include several sessions that focus on enabling entrepreneurs to build global partnerships, the impact of innovation and technology on pilot projects growth, the role of international organizations in supporting entrepreneurship, the role of global entrepreneurship capital, and the environment which best attracts business investments.

He added that the Forum aims to examine the evolving programs and policies to increase the efficiency of entrepreneurial projects. It also aims to help in the exchange of experiences and gaining of valuable information from successful global entrepreneurs to promote innovation and creativity among the leading business owners. This communication supports entrepreneurs who are still in the beginning to learn what the early stages are to the growth of successful businesses. He concluded by saying that another event handling guidance in entrepreneurship will be held in its third season after having achieved a distinctive successes in establishing voluntary work in entrepreneurship.

It is worth mentioning that the Entrepreneurship Award for the second edition includes six different categories based on innovation and creative thought. These include Best Action Plan, the award for the best idea of the project, the award for best leading and the award of the best mentor and guide.
